The story of Poutini

This is the story of Poutini and how greenstone was believed to have been created in New Zealand.
We have three narrators for this story, Harmony is Narrator one, Tuishaly is Narrator Two and Tumanako is Narrator Three.
Anthony will play the character called Poutini, Letisha is the beautiful Waitaiki and Kura is the husband of Waitaiki and her character is Tamaahua.
Our story begins.

Harmony - Narrator 1: Tena koutou katoa, this story takes place in the beautiful river called Mayor Island, the north island of New Zealand.
This island is a special place where a taniwha called Poutini is captured by the beauty of a woman called Waitaiki.

Anthony - Poutini: With all the stars in the sky and all the fish in the ocean, there she is. So beautiful.

# Meanwhile Waitaki is bathing and singing to herself unaware that Poutini is watching her.

# Waitaiki is humming in a lovely tone

Anthony - Poutini: (talking to the audience)  I’m going to take her away where no one can find her.

# Poutini turns to Waitaiki and captures her to take her away

Letisha - Waitaiki: oh no.. What’s happening?...what do you want from me?...where are you taking me?..

Tuishaly - Narrator 2: So Poutini kidnaps the beautiful Waitaiki and flees to the South Island - To the beautiful Arahura River.

Tumanako - Narrator 3: Meanwhile back in the North Island, Waitaiki’s husband Tamaahua who is a very spiritual and powerful chief, is told about his wife being taken away by Poutini.

Harmony - Narrator 1: So Tamaahua decides to journey across the south island and bring back his wife

Kura - Tamaahua:  I’m going to get my wife from him, I will get my revenge . I will turn him into a ‘Taurekareka’ as he will never be able to get her ever again, he will be a slave forever.

Harmony - Narrator 1: Poutini knew of Tamaahua’s great power and he feared something terrible would happen.

Anthony - Poutini: “If I can’t have you then no-one can.”

Tuishaly - Narrator 2: Upon saying this, Waitaiki was turned into a greenstone.
So, Poutini being the magical taniwha that he is, returned deep into the ocean.

Tumanako - Narrator 3: Tamaahua magically appears in the South Island and once he gets there he sees something very sad.

Kura - Tamaahua: Aue, aue, te aroha oh NO, my wife has been turned into a greenstone. How could this happen?

Harmony - Narrator 1: To this day you can hear the sadness of Tamaahua and how he lost his beloved wife.

Tuishaly - Narrator 2: And this was the story of Poutini and how greenstone appeared and was created in New Zealand

Tumanako - Narrator 3: Be careful of that taniwha Poutini.

No reira, Tena koutou, tena koutou, tena koutou katoa.
