Last week Tautoro school had athletics. These are some poem's about how I felt.

High jump

Waiting in line
Getting myself ready
Whaea Roseina called my name
“GO”

Off I went with a BLITZ and a BLAZE
I jogged the curve line
I jumped over fear and made it to the
Next round
“YAY”!

Back in line I sat
Waiting for my next turn
“GO”
With all eyes on me
Telling me I can go

Once again I ran and I tried to jump
the pole BUT instead of jumping
I hit the pole and fall off the mat with a
“BANG” and a “BOOM”

“YOUR OUT” the Whaea Roseina said to me,
So I sat and watch the rest have their turn.

Sprints

The black oily start line,
Putting pressure on myself,
Feeling nervous racing with my friends!

Matt said
“ON YOUR MARK GET SET GO”
The clappers went off
My feet as tired as they could get
Feeling like a broken ship wreck
Running to the end of the finish line
Coming 2nd then 3rd I’m equal I heard
You're nearly there keep on going
Just one more step!!!

Finished YAY
HOORAY I’m not last
I’m equal.

This is my draft report writing about what a Tsunami is. It describes what it does and where it happens.

Tsunamis

A Tsunami is a sequence of ocean waves caused by an underwater earthquake, landslide, or volcanic eruption. More rarely, a Tsunami can be generated by a giant meteorite impact once it hits the ocean floor.

These waves can reach up to enormous heights of 30m which is about 80% of a tsunami that would happen within the Pacific Ocean's Ring of Fire. It sends major surges of water, sometimes reaching heights of over 30 meters, onto land. These walls of water can cause widespread destruction when they crash ashore.

A Tsunami can sit at a depth of 5,000 meters, measures changes in pressure due to changes in water level. It transmits signals to the buoy, which, in turn, relays the measurements of wave height to satellites. This information is then used to forecast the progress of a tsunami.

On the average side of things, tsunamis occur throughout the world causing damage to the nearest shore. These occur in the whole world but it mostly happens in the Ring of Fire. The earthquake must be cause by an significant vertical deformation of the seafloor in order for a tsunami to occur.

A Tsunami is a destructive wave that can kill a lot of people in one hit. It is an ocean wide destructive disaster.

I have retold an historical event about a disaster that occurred in New Zealand. This writing is about the ship that sunk in Wellington.

The Wahine Disaster.

The Wahine disaster is a shipwreck that happened here in New Zealand and it was reported to be one of the worse shipwrecks of its time.

The great wahine had left Lyttelton at 8:40 pm the night before, carrying 610 passengers and 123 of the crew. There had been storm warnings but nothing to say that the storm would get any worse than the other winds in the straight, which was well known for it’s rough sea’s. The morning of April 10th 1968 Cyclone Giselle met at Wellington Harbour with another cyclone from Antarctica and that caused it to happen.
Her lost, With so many lives taken, was the most colossal shock. The wahine was a big, modern, powerful and fine looking ship less than two years old. Caption Robertson and his senior officers, all of them highly experienced mariners had believed that she would of came through the storm nice and easy. Out of the 734 people on board only 53 people died, from drowning and exposure to the elements. Many drowned  in the rough seas including two children and several elderly passengers.

Some of the crew said that Captain Robertson was asleep while they were having difficulties while steering the Wahine in the large waves. The Wahine’s chief officer, a fully qualified master mariner, was in charge on the bridge during this time. The steering difficulty was nothing unusual, and was rectified by lowering the Wahine’s speed. The ship’s speed was reduced to half ahead to aid the Wahine’s steering, which it did. The reduction did not render steering useless. There is no factual evidence that Captain Robertson tried to steer the Wahine back into the harbour after successfully bringing her bow round and pointing out to sea. Nor did he turn her into Breaker Bay.

So I stopped and waited for this person to come past and yet I was waiting for know one because that person was already in the the front of me running with the others.

W.A.L.T write about rice and what it is good for.

Athlete and Rice.
Bowl of white rice

Growing, selling and eating rice is integral to the culture of many countries. In China, it has been suggested that rice has been raised for 3000-4000 years, where it gradually rose to become an important part of life. China’s rural culture has developed around the growing of rice, and foods made from rice are the basis of festivals such as the Land Opening Festival, which marks the start of the rice cultivation season, and the Spring Festival. So why is rice so important?

Rice is a main ingredient in meals and will keep you strong and healthy. When people think about unhealthy, refined foods they often think of one color: white. And oftentimes this unhealthy, white food has a healthy brown counterpart. White sugar and brown sugar, white flour and whole flour. Although it may be true for most foods that white version is unhealthier than the brown version, rice seems to be one of the only exceptions. As a cereal grain, it is the most widely consumed staple food for a large part of the world's human population, especially in Asia. It is the agricultural commodity with the third-highest worldwide production, after sugarcane and maize, according to 2012 FAOSTAT data.

Rice is an important source of food for the athlete and will keep up their energy and stamina.

A news artical about the Olympics

Many athletes will be arriving in Rio for the opening of the world's biggest sporting spectacle.

The Rio Olympic Games is held every four years in a single city. More than 10,000 athletes take part in the summer games. Athletes with disabilities will participate in a variety of competitions which are the Paralympics. The Olympics have a certain amount of games that the disabled do.

Athletes train up to 8 hours per day. This training is meant to give you a mindset of a winner by setting their goals and dreams to win a gold medal. Coaches often structure routines with the purpose of effectively allowing the athletes to increase their focus gradually until the athlete understands and is in control of all their daily actions, nothing is wasted everything is done with a reason.

Overthinking and over-analyzing are an athlete’s biggest enemies. That’s why they train repeatedly so their muscles will remember the movements and their body will react to the environment without activating the brain. Your ability to focus on a goal is directly influenced by your motivation. Before you find what motivates you’ll need to have a better understanding how motivation works.

The Olympic is one of the most popular places in the world and it begins in two days.

I wonder who’s gonna win?

Should we be able to wear hoodies at Tautoro School?

Should we be able to wear hoodies at
Tautoro School?

I strongly agree that children should be able to wear hoodies on their  way to school and at school as well only because if it's pouring down children need coverage if they don't they could get very very sick.

Another reason why this statement is so important to me and others  because it keeps you warm when it needs to And in a way it makes you feel safe.

Sometimes children come home feeling sick and a bit sluggish most of them lose their heat from their head and neck, it is the most important place on your body to keep warm.                                                                                           students should be able to wear hoodies at school everyday.

Duffy the time traveller

Duffy the time traveller

The Duffy show only happens once a year. The three actors, Talia, Veeta and Simon and their kaumatua were at our school to show us what we could do if we read books.

The Duffy show starts at 11:00 says miss Simeon, straight after play time. Playtime was over so we all lined up and got ready to go to the library. I just couldn't wait to see the performance with my own eyes. As soon as we walked inside I started to laugh  even though they hadn't started their act and because of the funny things they were doing on the stage.

My favorite part was when Duffy saved Ruby's dad from dying in the war and when she learned how to read books.

The end part was when Ruby finally learned how to read her favorite book Alice in wonderland. When she rewarded Duffy he felt happy she got what she wished for.

Thank you Duffy theater for an awesome show.

My I am Poem

Thursday 16 June 2016

When it all began.

One hundred and ten years ago a rangatira named ‘Iraia Kuao’ fought for land and a school to be established here in Tautoro.

The  day started out with a powhiri. We welcomed our manuhiri with Papa Joe and Matua Mitai supporting our taumata. The first song Te Matua made the ex students smile when we were singing, some of them were even humming along with us.

The school had to wait for a little while because the hangi was running a bit late, so we decided to start the games of old. We got into our groups and we played several games the students use to play 100 years ago.  The first game we played was marbles and then hopscotch then we played  spinning tops and then skipping.

Finally the hangi arrived to a smell we could not resist. I quickly rushed to receive a big hangi to myself, that tasted almost better than delicious.

I thought that the day was amazing seeing the ex students so happy and having fun.  I am so glad to be a part of this day.

Happy birthday Tautoro School.
